Dr Janet Olson Receives Veterinary Service Award
Published February 8, 2007 7:22 am · Announcements, General
BART President and Founder Dr Janet Olson was awarded the prestigious Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association’s Veterinary Service Award, given once a year in Minnesota to an individual who “promotes the veterinary profession and improves the well being of animals.”
Olson received the award in recognition of her leadership, dedication and hard work establishing the Basic Animal Rescue Training non-profit organization, a veterinary community outreach program which has trained and equipped over 1,200 firefighters and first responders in Minnesota, so they are prepared to respond to animals on-the-scene of emergencies and disasters. BART strengthens local communities by building a closer working relationship between the Fire/Emergency Medical Services and veterinary professions and teaching first responders new skills. Several animal rescues have been credited by first responders to their BART training, since Dr Olson started the program in December 2004.
The award was announced at a luncheon at the 2007 Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association’s Annual Convention, held at the Minneapolis Hilton on February 2, 2007. Congratulations Dr Olson!
